Xiaomi vice president Hugo Barra, while launching the new Redmi Note 3 phone in New Delhi, confirmed that the company will release flagship Mi 5 in India in April.
Now, the company’s president (and co-founder), Bin Lin, in an interview with The Economic Times has revealed that the Xiaomi Mi 5 price will be between Rs 20,000 and Rs 27,000.
However, there is no word on whether the company will be releasing all the three Mi 5 variants in India. With a sub-Rs 27,000 price-tag, Xiaomi Mi5 is the cheapest smartphone in the market to house the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 series CPU, which is touted to be the most powerful SoC (System-on-Chip). While Samsung’s Galaxy S7 series, which comes with the same processor, costs more than Rs 48, 900 in India.
Xiaomi Mi 5 specifications, features: The 32GB variant features a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 820 chipset paired with 3GB of RAM, while the 64GB variant features a 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 chipset paired with 3GB of RAM. While the 128GB variant also features a 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 chipset, it is paired with 4GB of RAM.
The rest of the specifications remain the same. The Mi 5 features a 5.15-inch 1080p display, 16-megapixel rear camera with 4K video recording capabilities, four-axis OIS technology, PDAF, and dual-tone LED flash, and a 4-megapixel selfie camera.
It also features a 3,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, fingerprint scanner embedded into the home button, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi, IR Blaster, USB Type-C port and NFC. On the software front, it runs on Android Marshmallow wrapped under MIUI 7.
